Annual Medals and Awards

The following medals and awards are offered each year: 

• The Walter Boas Medal for excellence in original research that makes important contribution to physics in Australia.

• The Bragg Gold Medal for Excellence in Physics for the most outstanding PhD thesis in physics or its applications by a student from an Australian University.
  

• The TH Laby Medal for Excellence in Physics for the most outstanding Honours or Masters thesis in physics by a student from an Australian University.
  

• The AIP Award for Outstanding Service to Physics in Australia in recognition of exceptional contributions to advance the aims of the Australian Institute of Physics.
  

• The AIP Women in Physics Lecturer to recognise outstanding accomplishment in the field of Physics and inspire future physicists.

• The C.N. Yang Award has been established to honor young researchers with prominent research achievements and to promote the development of leaders in physics in the Asia Pacific region.

Biennial Medals and Awards

The following awards are awarded  in even numbered years: 

• The Harrie Massey Medal and Prize (in conjunction with the IOP) for outstanding contributions to physics made a citizen of Australia working anywhere in the world, or a citizen of any nation for work carried out in Australia.
  
  
• The Alan Walsh Medal for Service to Industry to recognise outstanding accomplishments in applying physics in industry.
  
  
• The AIP Education Medal for outstanding contributions to tertiary physics education in Australia.
  
  
• The Ruby Payne-Scott Award for Excellence in Early-Career Research for outstanding contributions to physics made by an early career physicist.

• The Women in Leadership Medal to recognise a female physicist in academia, industry or government, who has inspired or mentored early career physicists and/or developed more equitable workplaces in Australia. 

• The Physics Communication Award to recognise an excellent communicator who shares their outcomes of their work to a broader audience, and makes the public aware of the excitement and importance of physics.

Fellowship

Honorary Fellowship

Honorary Fellowship is awarded to distinguished persons intimately connected with physics, or a science allied thereto, whom the AIP especially desires to honour for outstanding services in connection with that science.
