WA AIP Astronomy Night

The WA AIP Branch is excited to invite WA AIP Members and family to the

2025 WA AIP Astronomy Night

This event will be strictly limited in numbers, so please RSVP promptly to john.brookes@uwa.edu.au to reserve a spot. First in, best dressed. Please include the number of spots you would like and the names of the attendees. We may exceed capacity, and if so, we will arrange another, different astronomy event later in the year.


What to Expect

You will get the chance to:

  • Look through 3 different telescopes to see the night sky
It will be a MOONLESS NIGHT (New Moon is on 2025 Mar 29 Saturday)
Sights could include:
  •  Mars - the "Next Planet" 
  • Jupiter & Its Galilean Moons 
  • Alpha Crucis A+B Binary Star System (Southern Cross) 
  • Jewel Box (Southern Cross) Star Cluster - ADULT Stars 
  • M42 Orion Nebula+Trapezium Cluster - Star BIRTH 
  • Betelgeuse Red Supergiant (in Orion) - OLD Star 
  • Omega Centauri and/or 47 Tucanae Globular Clusters - Star DEATH 
  • M104 - Sombrero GALAXY - 31 Million Light Years Distance, in Virgo

You are welcome to bring your own drinks/snacks.

This event will be delayed/rescheduled if weather/cloud is an issue.

This event is free of charge.

We look forward to showing our AIP members and families the exciting night sky.
