Dear {Contact_First_Name},

The AIP Congress begins today! Keep an eye on our socials for highlights of each day and don’t forget to tag the AIP in your posts: LinkedIn, Facebook, and X (@AusPhysics). Catch the Q&A session with ARC Exective Director Gavin Reid at lunchtime on Dec 3, and the public lecture on “What you shouldn’t know about quantum physics” by Prof Chris Ferrie. Details below.

The impacts of lower international student enrolments continue to reverberate around the university sector and we are aware that some physics departments are facing the possibility of significant cuts. The AIP wrote a letter of support for physics at the University of Wollongong, where staff reached out to us for help. Please let us know if others need support from the AIP.

The countdown is on to the 2025 International Year of Quantum. Briefings for cultural, political, business and industry leaders will be held at the Congress in Melbourne on 3 December (right before the public lecture) and in Perth on 16 December. Read more on the AIP quantum homepage.

Congratulation to the winners of the ACT photo competition, particularly Grand Prize winner Dr Margaret Wegener for her entry “Doubling Up: Reflection and Refraction”. Congratulations also to the winners of the NSW Branch Postgraduate Presentation Awards.

Save the date: the 2025 AIP AGM will be held online on 3 Feb 2025 – all welcome. Register below.

We want your feedback!  Please complete the anonymous AIP member survey to help us improve the AIP and ensure it continues to meet the needs of our community.  One randomly selected participant will win free membership for a year. More below.

Best wishes,

Nicole Bell
