Dear {Contact_First_Name},

Last week I was in Canberra representing the AIP at Science Meets Parliament (SMP), organised by Science & Technology Australia. It was a day of networking and conversations with politicians and colleagues from across Australia.

‘We need to change the conversation and put science front and centre in this nation’ – was the message from Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles at the Science Meets Parliament dinner.

Congratulations to the recent recipients of the Academy’s honorific awards for 2023, which included physicists Prof Susan Scott, Dr Amelia Liu and Prof Yuerui Lu.

Prizes and awards are an important way to gain recognition for your work, and there are many currently open for nomination. This includes the AIP’s Boas Medal, the Eureka Prizes, and the Australian Academy of Science honorific awards. See below for details. I encourage you to nominate yourself or one of your colleagues.

Finally, a save-the-date for your diary: the AIP Summer meeting will be held in collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand Optical Society at The Australian National University from 4 to 8 Dec 2023. I hope you can join us.

Best wishes,

Nicole Bell
President, Australian Institute of Physics
