Dear {Contact_First_Name},

Registration is still open for the AIP Summer Meeting in Brisbane. It looks like not all of us will be able to be there in person due to travel restrictions. Details on how to register here. I personally still hope for a miracle and am ready for a last-minute booking to see people face to face.

It was great to see this year’s Nobel Prize being announced. The link to global warming highlights the impact of physics, as a fundamental enabling science, in addressing one of the most important issues for our society.

The AIP formally reacted to the response from the ARC in the context of the pre-print issue. While it is frustrating that the matter is still not resolved, holding up upcoming grant rounds, it is good to see the STEM professional bodies jointly making a stand.

In coordination with the Academy, the AIP organised a delegation to the 30th IUPAP General Assembly resulting in the electing of six commission members for Australia. Many thanks to Judith Dawes, Jacinda Ginges, and Nicole Bell for staying up into the middle of the night for three consecutive sessions.

On a sombre note, Rod Jory passed away this month. Rod was a moving force in the establishment of the National Science Summer School in 1983, which became the National Science Youth Forum in 1995. He was also one of the first members of the AIP and the inaugural winner of Outstanding Service to Physics in Australia (in 1996). Our condolences to his family.

All the best,

Sven Rogge
